MEMORIAL OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY, MOTHER OF THE CHURCH: Since Mary has formed Jesus Christ, the head of the Church, the Mystical Body, she is qualified to form the members of that head, all Christians. Does a mother form the head without the members, or the members without the head? You can’t very well be the mother of only the head of your baby! You are mother of the whole body. So we are her children, and through her we receive the graces of being united to the body of her Son, and of receiving the divine life that comes through him.Mary possesses the fullness of grace to form us as members of her Son, Jesus Christ. She can direct us to Love -- to God -- because she became pregnant with Love and she brought forth Christ, the tremendous lover of mankind. To bear Love, to bring Love up, when Love takes the shape of a Child, to watch Love grow to manhood, to follow Love at a distance, while always being bound to him, and finally to stand under Love’s supreme sacrifice, the death of Love -- who was her Son -- is to know the way of Love.Talking to Mary is very simple. She will tell you about her Son who took upon himself your pain and mine, your sin and my sin. She will tell you about the fantastic obedience to his Father that her Son had. She will speak in a low voice about her own fiat, which simply means “yes” to God. Mary is as powerful as an army ready for battle. The Holy Trinity fills her and she is a help to everyone who has recourse to her. Who is Mary? She is the prototype of the Church, into which a Christian is born every time a child or adult is baptized. This is the threshold of the kingdom of God. -- Servant of God Catherine de Hueck Doherty ... See MoreSee Less
